About The Lord’s Church
The church of Christ had its beginning in New Testament times. Many Old Testament prophets spoke of its coming (Is. 2; Dan. 2; Joel 2). Jesus promised to build it (Mt. 16:18). Numerous New Testament preachers spoke of it existence (Acts 5:11; 20:28; Eph. 5:21-29; I Tim. 3:15; etc.). The saved of the first century were added to it by the Lord Himself (Acts 2:47). Thus, the church of Christ is an institution almost 2000 years old.
The foundation of the church of Christ is Jesus Christ himself (I Corinthians 3:11). Following the organization of the church found in the New Testament, the churches of Christ are nondenominational, and adhere to the teachings of Jesus found in the Bible. Our belief is based on the truth that “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).
Members of the church of Christ are called Christians as found in Acts 11:26 “the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch”. We follow no other law, guide or authority except the inspired teachings of Jesus found in the Bible.
When Jesus returned to Heaven, He instructed His apostles to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
God’s Plan of Salvation, How to be Saved
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift if God; not of works, that no man should glory” (Ephesians 2:8-9). God sent his only son Jesus to earth to die for sins.
Man has to do his part too.
Hear the Gospel “How shall they call on him whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14)
Believe “And without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him” (Hebrews 11:6)
Repent of our Sins “The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent” (Acts 17:30)
Confess Jesus as Lord “Behold here is water; What doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, if thou believeth with all they heart thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God: (Acts 8:36-37)
Baptized for the Remission of Sins “And Peter said unto them, Repent you, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38
Live a Christian Life “Ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9)
